CasperLabs Signer

Update summary

This week at CasperLabs, we introduced the CasperLabs signer, which is basically our version of Metamask and is now available on the Google Chrome store. This signer works with the CLarity explorer to sign transactions and deploys to the blockchain.

We’ve updated Testnet to Node 0.19.0, our testnet now supports Omega blocks and deploy gossiping, CLarity explorer has been updated too to reflect these new features.

Alexander Limonov gives a presentation on Decentralized Finance.

Engineering

  • We released Node 0.19 on 21st May 2020.
  • Node 0.19 comes with Deploy gossiping and Omega blocks and bug fixes
  • Consequently, the leader block proposal time has been throttled to reduce the incidence of orphaned or conflicting blocks

Testnet

  • We bounced the network and restarted with all validators on CasperLabs Node 0.19.0 (897c353ca709ec8549d3be28540b4d07983723a7).
  • Testnet was restarted on 2020–05–23 at 19:00hrs UTC.
  • During this round, we introduce the notion of Deploy Gossiping along with Omega blocks. The round exponent is adjusted to 19, which leads to a round-length of about 8 minutes.
  • All the other nodes are in sync and we are also not seeing the issue of multiple era bonding that we observed in the last genesis. The current J rank is 11188.

Current Focus

  • Work on the Rust Node is moving on perfectly as we’re ahead of its release schedule and would soon be merging it to our main GitHub repository.
  • We’re building a modular Highway protocol so we can support a ‘pluggable’ consensus. By pluggable consensus, it means we would be able to deploy and test several different consensus models on top of the Highway protocol.
  • We’re updating the genesis account to use hashes in place of keys, this is furtherance to our support for multi-cryptographic key types as well as ED25591
  • We’re updating information on CasperLabs signer — basically our version of Metamask- on chrome store.
