CasperLabs Weekly Update, 18th August 2020: Gas Fee Stability on Casper Network
Engineering status
- The team has entered into the second weekly sprint of the 20.09 release cycle (Sprint 5.2). The focus of this cycle is to deliver additional economic features (transaction fees), security features (slashing), and a Rust Client that has feature parity with the current Python Client.
- In the 20.09 Release Cycle, we are also focusing on doing design and specification work for some crucial features like ‘Check Pointing’, ‘Auto Price Adjustment’, and mechanism for ‘Social Consensus’ in the extreme case of a consensus failure.
- This cycle will also prepare for a pre-delta testnet of the Rust network with about 20 validators.
- The testnet is healthy and working as intended. The current J-Rank is 88747.
Current Focus
- We’re implementing validator set rotation in Era supervisor
- we plan to release the delta testnet with checkpoints to enable easier validator onboarding as they won't be required to download the entire blockchain to get their nodes up and running.
- We’re working and automating the test framework for the rust node.
Ecosystem
- We’re building a new self-hosted blog. The blog would host content from our developers, economist, and from our community.
- We’re extending the solidity compiler to include Enums. We’ll release a prototype of the ERC-20 contract and the solidity compiler along with a blog post.
- We are enhancing CLarity to include a parser for CLTypes. This basically verifies that the arguments passed from browser-based deploy are of the correct type.
- We’ll implement some metrics in Clarity with the help of Prometheus and Grafana.
- Adding support for Complex Types in DSL.
Economics Research
- Technical specifications for Auto Price adjustment.
- Design the process for dealing with equivocation catastrophes. This specifies a process for social consensus in an extreme case of an attack or consensus failure.
