CasperLabs Weekly Update, 2nd June 2020: Autonomous Gas Pricing Adjustment
Update summary
The team is glad to have entered the third weekly sprint, having recently moved to a weekly sprint to accelerate delivery. On the testnet we now have 24 consensus forming nodes and 3 read-only nodes, these are nodes being spurned up by members of our community that want to participate in validating on the testnet.
On community/ecosystem, we’re pleased to announce that we’re now part of the DraperGorenHolm network here is the official press release. We’re developing a voting smart contract as well as a Web-app for the upcoming CryptoChicks hackathon. This app would be used to vote for projects that are building on top of CasperLabs’ blockchain during the Hackathon and also would be available for use by our community.
Also on the call was an interesting presentation by one of our Economist, Onur Solmaz on Autonomous Gas Price Adjustment, this presentation proffers a trustless solution for Gas price stability similar to Bitcoin’s network difficulty adjustment.
Engineering
- The Team has entered the third weekly sprint (Sprint 2.3). We recently moved to a weekly sprint to accelerate delivery.
- We are rolling out filebeat to validators so we can scrape their logs for easier debugging.
- We now have 24 consensus forming nodes and 3 read-only nodes in the network.
- We have discovered 18 bugs in total during the testnet, 10 have been fixed. 3 are in review and 5 are being triaged.
Current Focus
- We’re working on fixed round lengths for Highway. In this schedule, the round leader produces proposal blocks containing transactions, while non-leaders produce attestation or witness blocks — deploy gossiping -.
- On the Rust portion of the Node, we’re finalizing the networking component that is being built from ground-up.
- We’re also building a unified storage model for the Node to unify storage on both the Rust and Scala portions of the Node
- Tracking block dependencies in deploy buffer: to keep sets of hashes of deploys included in the past blocks to prevent replay attacks.
- We’re modularizing the node architecture to enable ‘pluggable consensus’
- We’ve fixed an account serialization bug that was found on CLarity a while back
- We’re reviewing the incentive mechanism for deploy gossiping and communication on the protocol.
Community/Ecosystem
- We’re pleased to announce that we’re now part of the DraperGorenHolm network here is the official press release.
- We’re developing a voting smart contract as well as a Web-app for the upcoming CryptoChicks hackathon. This app would be used to vote for projects that are building on top of CasperLabs’ blockchain during the Hackathon and also would be available for use within our community.
- Over the past week, we had an AMA (Ask me anything) with BitMart in case you missed it here is a recap
- We took part in the CRYPTO Vs COVID19 poker charity event with a member of our community reaching the final rounds. All proceeds from the event are to support PPE for front-line workers.
- Our CEO, Mrinal Manohar accompanied by our COO participated in a special Livestream with Cointelegraph. Catch-up on the Livestream here
Presentation
- Onur Solmaz gives a presentation on Autonomous Gas Price Adjustment
- The Autonomous gas price adjustment proffers a trustless solution for Gas price stability similar to Bitcoin’s network difficulty adjustment.
