In case you missed it, here is a bulletin summary from the governance/update for the call on 29th October 2019. You can watch the live video session that was streamed on youtube here.

Development Update

  • The development roadmap for the next six months has been mapped out
  • The devnet has been updated with the latest patch with Node 0.8.1
  • We are in a three-week sprint focusing on testing, performance, and stability of the network.
  • Lots of progress has been made especially on the long-running test with the network running for more than a week with good resilience on different testing scenarios.
  • Work is continuing on the highway protocol with progress been made on the foundational element of the protocol eg. fork-choice-rule, ballots, slashing algorithm, etc.
  • Lots of automation work going on like spinning up infrastructure(terraform), adding more nodes (ansible).
  • On the ecosystems front, we noticed some limitation on our GraghQL during the hackathon and fixing the bugs discovered
  • We are also extending the GraphQL schema
  • Clarity explorer is being brought into an integration test framework.
  • In performance and scalability, we discovered that the slowest of the system right now is the execution engine. We’re implementing multi-threading, module caching and we’re expecting to see a boost in performance after that.
  • Testnet pushed to January 2020 to enable the team to work with potential validators and get them familiar with the software to help bootstrap the genesis block which is a key milestone for the Testnet.

Team and Company Update

  • Medha and Michael Birch are at CESC 2019 -San Francisco Blockchain week-
  • We had a good interaction with the engineering partner at Blockstack on Highway protocol.
  • Met with friends of Caspelabs from previous conference and event at San Francisco
  • Would be at Epicenter from 1–2 November and Medha would be speaking on Thursday morning
  • Michael Birch would be running a workshop on Thursday afternoon and would be sharing a game built on Casperlabs blockchain using smart contracts.
  • Last week at Los Angeles we had our first hackathon with three teams building against Casperlabs blockchain
  • One of the teams built a learning application with a quiz function that offers rewards in the form of a token. We were able to observe the quiz app and see the token being granted on the Devnet and showing up at the participant’s wallet.
  • One of the teams built a “Proof of Activity” app where users would be able to upload their activities to an activity portal, the hash of the activity is broadcasted to the network and a bet is placed in a smart contract by the users against themselves that they would -or would not- complete an activity eg. showing up at the gym, completing a course etc.
  • The other team built a pure GraphQL implementation of a 3D gas viewer to evaluate gas usage on the Devnet.
  • Our partner, HDAC are working on a Go-gRPC version of Casperlabs execution engine.
  • Also, our smart contract developer Maciej Zielinski built a typescript implementation of a token transfer
